“The Greek Museum of Adelaide Inc.”

Apart from writing, I have some other interests and hobbies. One of them is the establishment of the Hellenic Museum of Adelaide. When my wife and I came to Australia in 2012, we saw that although there were a multitude of Greek Associations and activities, there was no Museum exclusively dedicated to Greek civilization and culture. So we decided to establish the Hellenic Museum of Adelaide as a non-profit organization. I am currently the Treasurer of the Museum on the Board Committee while I am in charge of the website, the members’ archive and the maintenance, storage and archiving of the exhibits.

“Radio Melodia”

From a young age I liked radio as a means of communication but also from a technical point of view. When I was in high school I had visited the Greek Television and Radio and got a good idea up close how the studios work. I liked building “pirate” radio stations but I never operated one for a long time. So in 2014 I found the opportunity and created a small Greek-language radio station in Adelaide in the narrow FM band with a state license this time! Communicating with the public via radio still seems magical to me, although I know how it works technically and it has been demystified in my mind, it still fascinates me!
Details can be found on the official website of the radio station: https://melodia.au

“Radio Amateur Operator ID:VK5AT”

My love for radio is not limited to the Melodia radio station, but from the first year I came to Australia I took exams and received my advanced diploma as an amateur radio station operator with the identification VK5AT.

“The Greek Music Port”

Television is another great love of mine! I can say that Australia is the land of opportunities. I say this because in 2017 I created a Greek television music show “The Greek Music Port” with high standards and on my own, without any help from anywhere, I managed to present 54 half-hour episodes on Australian television on two channels. In Adelaide on channel 44 and in Melbourne on channel 33. It should be noted that in total in both of these Australian cities the Greek population reaches the number of 400,000 inhabitants. Needless to say, the entire TV show (music companies, studios, video recording, editing, presentation, distribution, etc.) was organising by me.

“Music, keyboards, and ancient Greek Lyra!”

Another favorite hobby of mine is Music. The word Music comes from the ancient Greek Muses. Obviously the Muses would have influenced me when I was teenager and that’s why I loved music after learning to play the electronic organ. Now in Australia I have made some youthful dreams come true regarding music and I also write my own songs and even orchestral ones. I also made a replica of an ancient Greek lyre where I am excited by the simple way of producing complex music with this musical instrument that has existed for thousands of years.

“Web pages design”

Web design on the Internet was something I had to learn when the Internet was still in its infancy. Back then, there weren’t all the web design programs that exist now and the construction was done exclusively in HTML code. The first page I built was that of Geraki of Laconia, in Greece (open the link https://mavraidis.com/geraki which is redirect you to the old web site from the internet archive). I started it in January 1997 on the internet provider Hellas On Line, and updated it regularly. It was one of the first websites of this type in Greece and was made for the association of Gerakites of Attica. Later in the year 2002, I built a web page for the then Municipality of Geronthrae https://mavraidis.com/Dimos_Geronthron (Dimos Geronthron). Now I use different platforms to construct web sites. The latest are the web sites for the Greek Museum of Adelaide, Radio Melodia, and my personal page using WordPress.

“CNC machining”

An other hobby is the CNC machines. When I was working on Intracom Defence in Greece I was programming a CNC tester for electronic boards. It was my first aproach to those machines. Now In my home garage I use a CO2 laser cutter, a 3d printer and a CNC router for wood and metals. At the following photos are some of my creations.
