Can you tell me if the author of the history section of the Geraki website is Panagiotis Poulitsas? Was he the Greek Premier in 1946? I am asking because my Great Grandfather was George Thomas Poolitsan whose father was, as I am told and as I have read in newspaper articles in the United States, Panagiotis Poulitsas' uncle.
If you have any information on this, or could forward this email to someone else who could give me an answer, I would greatly appreciate it. My husband and I are trying to plan a trip to Greece for October and would be thrilled to meet any relatives that are in the area!!!

Dear Mr. Mavraidis,
I was delighted to come across the "Geraki of Sparta"
page you designed.
Although my family was not from Geraki originally, my uncle
Yiannis
Nikias resides there with his wife Eleni. My mother is sister to
Uncle
Yiannis and they grew up close by, in Zarafona. We visit Geraki
to see
my uncle when we travel to Greece and although I was ignorant of
it's
great history, I truly appreciated the beautiful town that it
is.
Sincerely Yours,

My name is Vicky Rorris from Sydney Australia. I have been introduced myself way back in April 98. We just came back from Greece a day before New year. Plenty of memories, a beautiful sight of Kosmas, our birthplace, with snow falling down, I think it started falling just for us. After 40 years for my husband Con and 35 years for me , at last we saw white Christmas. What an unforgettable experience. Our Christmas here in Australia is with cold beer, BBQs, swimming, and a Santa pretending to feel cold. Although we have adjusted to these celebrations ,we are still longing for the real snow and the real thing. JUST WHITE CHRISTMAS . This time we had a good reason to find ourselves in Greece. We came back just for 20 days deciding to spent Christmas in Greece and New Year in Australia with the Family.
Con , my husband, entered a competition in literature in Athens. They, the Panellinia Enosi Logotehnon, gave him the second prize in the short story category ( DIIGIMA )They rang us and the next day we were flying back to Greece so he could pick up his prize from the Dimarhion in Athens and also to fulfil our dream for a white Christmas.
We had an intense 20 days with unforgettable experiences. The highest point was, the satisfaction that you felt in general, knowing that you have kept your Greekness within you all these years in a foreign country and the acceptance on the equal basis of judgement, from the people in Greece. As a very prominent Greek, doctor in literature, who was made an honourable member of the Enosis of logotehnes, from a university here in Australia, Dr Kanarakis said. "We are proud of ourselves. Now you need us and we need you. We need each other, so we can show to the world together what it means to be Greek." Gone are the times that we were hidden behind the fast production lines of the Australian factories. We are now feeling proud of ourselves and showing it . We also have tried and succeeded in a big way, teaching our children to stay , feel and be proud to be Greeks. So here I am, pouring again the strong feelings that I always have for my heritage. A big thanks to everyone, who showed us how hospitable Greeks are. We will never forget it. We have visited Geraki too. We always do. We went and saw dontakia place. The pano Vrisi part of Geraki , looks like a new place to me. I always lived in the skala place near Paraskeva's eboriko
To all Lakones and Arkadians. Have A Happy 2000
Regards

It is absolutely heartwarming and exhilarating to see a small village like Geraki, Sparta Greece with a website. That little village has propelled itself into the 21st Century. Bravo! Our parents were from Geraki and Sparta. Our mother was from Geraki and our father was from Sparta. Our mother's family name was Papajohn, and she lived in the only two story home right on the Village Square. My sister, brothers and I have visited Geraki every time we have gone to Greece. It is a wonderful drive from Athens to Geraki, and it sorta conjures up thoughts of what our parents saw and loved about Greece. They loved Greece and we do to. And hooray for Geraki, they are now getting their own Hotel. I would love to stay there if I ever get to go back. Out of a family of eight, there are four of us left. We all have access to the internet so I hope they will all sign your guest book, show support and spread the word about your fabulous website. Sincerely, George Demetrios Pantaze Dallas, Texas

Hi. My name is Vicky Rorris from Sydney Australia. I am
the daughter of Nikolaos Tsolomitis. They used to call him Melas,
only in Geraki, because he was selling honey and wax. I am from
Kosmas Kynourias but my father at the time had bought a house in
Geraki and during winter time we used to leave there. My memories
from Geraki are wonderful. As kids we couldn't wait for the time
to come back each year and meet our friends. Then when summer was
near our ITCHY FEET (an English expression) wanted to go back to
our beautiful Kosmas. Perhaps deep down the life we were leading
at the time, helped us to accept Australia as part of our own and
not regard this generous country as a foreign one, but as a third
place of residence, after Kosmas and Geraki. Special today, that
the financial situation of the majority of Greek people here is
sound enough to eliminate the huge distances that separate us
from our birthplace, enabling us to travel whenever we want and
norrow the gap. My husband Con Rorris is from Kosma - Vrontama.
He came in Australia 1960 and myself 1965. We have two sons, both
married and 4 grandsons. Both my sons are in the computer
business. That's the reason why I have taking computer lessons to
minimise the gap between parents and children of this era. I
taught my two boys Greek, now they have taking the opposite role
teaching a middle age mother computer. It is not easy.
Congratulations on your wonderful site. We are proud when we tell
people about our region in Greece, advising them to look in the
internet and read our history. I have done the same thing for
Kosmas and I have a continuous link with Mihalis Koutsotheodoris,
the president of the Kosmites in Athens who is also a cousin of
mine from my paternal grandmother's side. This summer we are
coming for ten weeks. We will be happy to see you. Give my

Gerakites.

Yiasou, My name is Vasilios Manousos, My dad John came
from Geraki and he was pleased to see the old village on the
internet. I have been there once before and I must say that the
little time that I stayed there was most enjoyable and will
remain in my memory as a beautiful village. Anyway I'd like to
say a big hello to my Grandpa Vasilios Manousos, my Uncle Kosta
and his family From Vasilios Manousos Adelaide, Australia

I visited Geraki for the first time in 1979 where I looked
up my great uncle Tasso and his family. We had an unforgettable
time and I got to know family that I had never met. My experience
there was a once in a lifetime adventure. My parents followed my
path and visited the birthplace of my mothers parents in 1988.
The family name was Schoolarina and our cousin Demo and his
family still reside there.

An Excellent And Well Done Site.Years ago I passed through
Geraki; it was 1931. I was 5 years old and I was on my way to
America.I returned in 1962 to visit my place of birth Iou Andrea
and I revisited Geraki and Karitsa as one of these towns was my
mothers place of birth. Her maiden name was Jebela (Semples) I
wish to thank you, for your site brought back many wonderful
memories that I had long since almost forgotten .Any information
on my place of birth would be more then welcome.
